Paperbacks or E-books - the Choice is Yours

All of my titles are available to you as traditional paperbacks and as electronic downloads, or "e-books." More and more readers are enjoying the ease, convenience, and savings of electronic book downloads, and the number of outstanding authors published by e-book publishers grows each year. E-books offer you:

  • Savings. An electronic book download costs about 75% less than the same title in paperback form. That is because it costs much less to produce the electronic file for your download, as opposed to the printed paperback. Publishers pass these savings on to you.
  • Convenience. You can store thousands of e-books on the typical home PC, hundreds on a single disc. An inexpensive, handheld e-reader lets you mobilize your personal library when you travel, yet it occupies the space of just one paperback book.
  • Reading Ease. Perhaps best of all for those of us who need reading glasses, e-readers provide a large, easy-to-read display. Unlike printed books, e-book print can be adjusted to precisely the typeface and font size that you prefer.
  • Instant Access. You can order high quality e-books from publishers' websites at any time of the day or night and have them delivered to your computer instantly. There's no need to drive to the bookstore, no need to wait for a book to ship and pay shipping costs from the online bookstore. You receive your e-book in PDF or HTML format as soon as you place and pay for your order.

E-book Formats. Most e-book publishers offer downloads in either HTML or PDF formats. Many also offer traditional paperback formats, which you can order and ask to have shipped. If you select an e-book download, you can choose to read it in one of these four ways:

  • On your PC Screen: Download the PDF format to your PC, then use Acrobat Reader to prepare the text on your screen.
  • Paper Printout: Printing an e-book will add to your overall costs, but if you wish to read a download this way, we suggest that you choose the PDF format, use Acrobat Reader, and print out the book on your PC's printer.
  • Handheld Computer: There are dozens of handheld devices (also known as PDAs), such as PalmPilot, with various operating platforms. We recommend you order the HTML format and convert HTML to your specific reader.
  • E-book Reader: This is the most popular way to read e-books. E-book readers have larger displays than handheld/PDA devices and are specifically designed for e-book reading. An e-book reader can store hundreds of e-books for your convenience and reading pleasure. Among the most popular devices are the Franklin E-Bookman, Hiebook, and Rocket E-book readers. Other readers, such as the Sony Librie, are just coming onto the market and offer advanced features.

However you choose to read them, e-books offer a convenient, low-cost way to add to your reading options. Just "Google" the name of the device you'd like to investigate to locate retailers that carry it in your area or on line.
